A Bright Light: A History of the Point Sur Lightstation with Point Sur Historian, Carol O'Neil and Historian Tim Thomas

Curious about Monterey history?  Join us for a lively discussion each month with local Historian Tim Thomas as we explore Monterey’s rich historic past.  This month Tim Thomas will explore look at the cultural history of Monterey's rich and always fascinating fishing industry.

This program will look at the history of Point Sur Lightstation, first lit on August 1, 1889, It's importance to Monterey and California. What was it like to live there in the 19th century, to be isolated from friends and family? How did they build it and get supplies on the top of that rock? This is also a story of whalers, sardine fisherman, abalone divers and the most famous wreck ever along the Big Sur coast, The USS MACON! 

This program takes place on Zoom, or participants may join by phone. Registration closes an hour before the program. The Zoom access information will be sent to registered participants shortly before the program begins. Use of video camera and level of participation is determined by each person.
