Cannery Row Days: The Life History of Ed Ricketts and his Marvelous Laboratory

Join Gregor Cailliet and Lucas Seastrom for a discussion about Ed Ricketts and Pacific Biological Laboratories!

Gregor Cailliet will discuss and show slides of the life history of Ed Ricketts, his role along Ocean View Avenue, his importance describing intertidal invertebrates and their habitats, his book Between Pacific Tides published by Stanford University Press, and other aspects of his Pacific Biological Laboratories (PBL) facility. 

Lucas Seastrom will discuss the Pacific Biological Laboratories building on Cannery Row and its place as a crossroads of history. the Lab's story involves multiple generations of people both before and after the era of Ed Ricketts and John Steinbeck. We'll examine the more than 100 years of history on the site, with particular attention paid to the famed "PBL Men's Club," who ultimately saved the building for posterity.

The discussion will take place at InterContinental The Clement 750 Cannery Row Monterey, CA 93940 and will lead into a tour of Pacific Biological Laboratories 800 Cannery Row Monterey, CA 93940.
