OFF THE BEATEN PATH with James Michael Dorsey

OFF THE BEATEN PATH with James Michael Dorsey

World explorer and award-winning author, James Michael Dorsey returns to the Monterey Library with a new series of adventure travelogues.

In his, “Off the Beaten Path,” series James will tell how he became a professional explorer and segued his remote travels through sixty countries into a successful writing, speaking, and photographic career. This series will take you to exotic places to meet people much of the world does not know exist.

In tonight’s show we will travel with James to one of the most remote places on the African continent, The Omo Valley of Ethiopia.

There were no roads into the Omo until the mid 1960's and the various tribes that live there have evolved over centuries with no linguistic or stylistic similarities to any other African cultures. James will take you into villages and jungles to attend ceremonies and observe rituals few will ever see.

We will get close to the wildlife, witness the most bizarre and brutal wedding ceremony in existence, and meet the gun-toting Mursi people whose women wear massive lip labrets as a mark of beauty. This evening will be a journey into unknown Africa.

Each show will feature dramatic visual images and videos, and James will tell personal stories from the far reaches of the earth.

His books will be for sale at these presentations that will take place every three months, so please check the library calendar of events page to register as seating is limited.
