Zines and Scenes: Creative Writing Competition
Our Writing Competition is part of Zine and Scenes: Your Voice, Your Art and our partners for this event are Youth Arts Collective, Monterey Museum of Art, and California State Parks. Click the link for more information about the full event: Zines and Scenes
In this Creative Writing Competition, we will encourage writers to explore your emotions, share your stories, and write about what you would like to share with your community. Our theme for this workshop is, "As the next generation of artists, what do you hope for? What do you value?"

Submission Requirements for the Zine:
- Open to young writers from 11-20 years old.
- Participants can submit an essay, short story, poem, or songwriting.
- No sexually explicit, graphic violence, and racism content
- Work must be original
- Full Page or a max of 450 word count
- Submissions are accepted through email at osejo@monterey.org beginning October 5 at 10am through October 13th at 8pm.
- You must include the following information on your submission: First and Last Name, Age and School or you can submit Anonymously.
Ten entries will be selected for our collaborative Zine and the winners will be announced on our social media pages @montereypubliclibrary and @montereylibteen.
