Cannery Row Days Talk: Susan Gregory's Tortilla Flat
Where was Tortilla Flat? Who were its people? Did the paisanos really exist? Or, was Tortilla Flat entirely fictional? The answers to many of these questions may be Susan Myra Gregory, whom Steinbeck dedicated his 1935 novel. Gregory was the Monterey schoolteacher, writer and poet who— along with others— told Steinbeck stories of Monterey's paisanos and their neighborhoods. This talk will explore the people, places and stories behind Steinbeck's Tortilla Flat.
Dennis Copeland (Local Historian) will present Susan Gregory's Tortilla Flat in-person at the Monterey Public Library, and will be available for questions afterward.
This talk will be presented in-person inside the Community Room at Monterey Public Library.
