Monterey in the Mexican Era

The American Association of University Women & California State Parks presents Monterey in the Mexican Era

 

During this program, Aaron Gilmartin, interpreter for the Monterey State Historic Park, will speak about the history of Monterey under Spanish, Mexican, and US military rule and the history of the city's historic adobes. Also from the Monterey State Historic Park, Julia Madden-Fulk will speak about the history of Monterey and the role of women in the 1800s. Finally, Award winning novelist of A Dangerous Business, Jane Smileywill add her perspective on the challenges women faced during this period.

Copies of A Dangerous Business will be for sale at the event, and Jane Smiley will be onhand to sign her book after the program.
