Before They Vanish: Untold stories from Africa's Most Fabled Cities

Before They Vanish: Untold stories from Africa's Most Fabled Cities

Ethiopia’s Omo Valley

Explorer and award-winning author, James Michael Dorsey, returns to the Monterey Library with “The Omo Valley of Ethiopia.” The Omo is one of the most isolated regions of rural Africa. There were no roads into the valley until the mid-1960’s. As a result, the numerous tribes that live there have evolved over time with no linguistic or stylistic connections to any other tribes in Africa. In tonight’s travelogue you will meet people who believe they are related to elephants, a tribe that shares its land with crocodiles, a gun culture whose history collided with the Ringling Brothers Circus, and you will attend one of the most bizarre weddings ever recorded.

Copies of his books, including his recently published title, The Lagoon: Encounters with the Whales of San Ignacio will be available for purchase.
