Before They Vanish: Untold stories from Africa's Most Fabled Cities

Before They Vanish: Untold stories from Africa's Most Fabled Cities

Voodoo is the oldest personal belief system on earth whose origins can be traced back almost 6,000 years to Benin, West Africa. To some, it is a religion, while others find it mere superstition. Either way, it is one of the world’s most misunderstood beliefs systems. Explorer and award-winning author, James Michael Dorsey, spent a month following the “VOODOO TRAIL” through Togo, Benin, and Burkina Faso in Africa, documenting ceremonies while interviewing practitioners and witch doctors. Tonight, he will try to explain this complex system that has no set dogma, tracing its origin from the country of Benin, through the Caribbean, into New Orleans, Louisiana. He will show images and videos of fantastic ceremonies, costumes, traditions, and tell personal stories of his involvement while in West Africa.

Copies of his books, including his recently published title, The Lagoon: Encounters with the Whales of San Ignacio will be available for purchase.
