Before They Vanish: Travelogues with James Dorsey

Before They Vanish: Travelogues with James Dorsey

Explorer and award-winning author, James Michael Dorsey returns to the library to revive his “BEFORE THEY VANISH,” travel presentation series.

Join us for the last program in the series as James introduces his latest book, THE LAGOON, Encounters with the Whales of San Ignacio. He will read excerpts, tell personal stories about his adventures, and sign books. Come and learn of the gentle giants who share our planet.

"THE LAGOON," is the story of the mystical connection between humans and whales that has existed in one lagoon for almost 10,000 years.

It will take you on the water where forty-five-foot, forty-ton, wild animals approach our twenty-foot open boats to be petted and to play with us as though we are bathtub toys. The bring their newborns to us to be petted, holding them up on pectoral fins when they tire, or rolling upside down to place them on their stomach as if to say, “Look what I made!”  They come with open mouths to have their tongue and baleen stroked, pressing against our hands for the experience of touch as only those with no arms or hands can do. Sometimes they simply log next to the boat, looking us directly in the eye as we try to decipher each other’s intimate thoughts.

Copies of THE LAGOON will be available for purchase.
